How This Tool Works

This free waste transfer note generator is pre-configured for UK liquid waste collections. It defaults to EWC code 20 03 04 (septic tank sludge) — the correct classification for domestic cesspit and septic tank waste. You can also select codes for grease trap waste (19 08 09) or drain jetting waste (20 03 06).

Fill in your carrier details, the customer (waste producer) information, and the disposal site where you'll discharge the load. The tool generates a formatted transfer note you can download or print.

What Must a Waste Transfer Note Include?

Under the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011, every waste transfer note must include: the waste description and EWC code, the quantity transferred, how the waste is contained, the date and place of transfer, carrier and producer details (including waste carrier registration number), and the disposal site information. Both parties must sign the note and keep copies for at least 2 years. For a step-by-step walkthrough, see our guide on how to complete a waste transfer note for liquid waste.

Season Tickets for Recurring Customers

If you empty the same cesspit on a regular cycle, you can use a season ticket — a single WTN covering up to 12 months of transfers. You still record each collection (date, time, quantity), but you don't need a freshly signed note every visit. Tick the "Season ticket entry" checkbox above to mark the note accordingly.

October 2026 and Digital Waste Tracking

From October 2026, waste receiving sites in England must record waste movements digitally. Waste carriers (including cesspit operators) become mandatory from October 2027. This tool helps you familiarise yourself with the data fields before the transition. For the full timeline, see our guide on digital waste tracking for cesspit and tanker operators.
